Fast Drying and Wear-Resistant.
Chem 1000 is a two-component 85% solids, low VOC clear or color polyaspartic coating. Chem 1000 was developed to be used as a fast set base coat or topcoat with decorative floor systems such as vinyl chip, colored quartz or metallic floors.
It has excellent UV stability and resistance to abrasion, weathering and a wide range of chemicals. It can be squeegee, roller or spray applied on horizontal and vertical surfaces. It can also be used as a clear sealer over porous stone and terrazzo surfaces.
What Is The Best Type Of Polyaspartic Coating For Concrete, Floors And Walls?
The best type of Polyaspartic Coating is one that will give you fast drying time and is also easy to work with.
Our Chem 1000 is fast-drying and can be applied up to 30mm thick. It also can be used at low and high temperatures.
This product is very low odor. It has good chemical resistance, and it comes with a number of color options.
You can request the addition of metallic colors, solid pigments, or pigmentation at the factory.
What Is A Polyaspartic?
A Polyaspartic coating is one that dries very fast. Much faster than an epoxy or a polyurethane.
We use them in situations where we want a quick turnaround. For example, when we need to get a floor space back into service quickly, or where we’re dealing with cold temperatures.
Our Chem 1000 polyaspartic dries in 60 to 80 minutes.
It can be used in temperatures ranging from 32 degrees Fahrenheit (zero degrees Celsius) up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit. So it’s very fast-drying, but still has great application properties.
What Is Chem 1000 High Performance Polyaspartic Coating?
Chem 1000 is a two-part fast drying polyaspartic coating. It’s a high-solid content product with low odor, so there’s no hazard associated with it.
It has excellent chemical-resistance and it comes in a clear formula or pigmented.
We can use it as a base coat or a top coat. We can also add color to it if we want, or broadcast flakes or color quartz into the coating.

Polyaspartic coatings are developed to be fast drying coatings which allow a quick return to service or use in cold temperatures.
The product typically comes with two parts you mix together. Then you spread the mixture across the floor surface with a squeegee or a roller.
You can use it as a base coat with chips or quartz. You can use it as standalone coating, with color pigment in it or as it clear coat.
The Chem 1000 is a two-part polyaspartic. It’s high-build. It has virtually zero odor. It’s very easy to use, and it provides excellent physical and color properties.
Why Is Chem 1000 A Better Polyaspartic Coat Than Retail-Store Brands?
Chem 1000 can provide distinctly better results than competing brands because of it’s application properties.
It’s a very fast drying coating, but it gives you a good amount of time to work the product onto the surface. You’ve got 15 plus minutes to work with it. Store-bought polyaspartics leave you only 5 or 10 minutes of “working time.”
Chem 1000 also provides you this extended working time without adding extra solvent and odor issues associated with very high-solvent products.
The product has good chemical resistance, and we can actually apply it thicker than competing polyaspartics. We can apply a coating up to 30mm thick. Store-bought brands can only provide 10 or 15mm thickness consistently.
This gives us a good base on which to broadcast flakes or color quartz. It also gives us a good top-coat if we want to get a nice smooth, level surface.
In terms of application. In terms of coating thickness. And in terms of performance, Chem 1000 offers some key advantages over the standard polyaspartics.
What Condition Should The Concrete Be In Before I Coat?
When you’re using Chem 1000, make sure the concrete surface is in good condition. Patch any holes or cracks that may appear after you coat it.
Make sure that the concrete is sound and it doesn’t have a lot of moisture in it. Ideally, the surface should be dry.
Make sure there are no existing sealers on it, which may block the adhesion of the polyaspartic coating.
Feel free to contact Covertec customer service for tips on how to test for moisture in the concrete and for existing sealers.
How Are Polyaspartic Concrete Floor Coatings Applied?
Polyaspartic floor coatings are applied usually by squeegee and back rolling. You must be able to spread out the floor coating because they dry quickly.
It’s important for a polysapartic product to have good application properties. Chem 1000 offers this extended working time.
It is much easier to use than competing polyaspartics. It will dry in about 60 to 80 minutes. This fast turnaround lets you re-open the floor surface to use again with minimal interruption to clients and customers.
Why Is It Important To Test For Moisture Or Sealers?
Moisture in concrete can cause problems for polyaspartic coatings. The moisture itself can cause the coating to appear “milky” or hazy.
It can cause “fish-eyeing” or blistering, and trap moisture under the coating. This can eventually lead to de-lamination or peeling of the polyaspartic coating.
It’s important to test for it, and make sure that you’re applying the product to a dry surface.
Worst case scenario, we recommend using moisture barriers before you apply the coating.
How Do I Test For Presence Of A Sealer?
You can determine if there’s an existing sealer on a concrete floor by doing a simple water test.
Simply sprinkle or pour a small amount of water onto the surface, and examine the floor after 5 minutes.
If it stays on the surface and forms “beads,” that’s an indication that there’s a sealer on the surface.
It’s important to sand, etch, or grind the surface to remove that sealer before you apply your polyaspartic coating.
How Do I Add Color To Polyaspartic Clear Coat?
There are lots of color options with the Chem 1000 polyaspartic coating.
It can come to you pre-colored as a pigmented coating straight from the factory. You can add pigments to it, such as solid colors or metallic colors. You can also broadcast vinyl color flakes or color quartz into it.
So, there are many options are available to add color to Chem 1000.
What Is Pot Life?
Pot life is very important with two-part polyaspartic coatings.
It’s the amount of time that you have to use the product – after mixing the product parts together – before it starts to set up, and you lose the application properties.
Typically with a polyaspartic it can range from 5 to 15 minutes. You have to be ready and able to apply the coating within that period of time.
Once you go outside of the pot life of 15 minutes, then the product is becomes very thick, or you lose a lot of the chemical properties.
If this happens, it can compromise the overall success of the coating effort.
How Long Do Polyaspartic Coatings Take To Dry?
A key characteristic of polyaspartic coatings is that they are fast-drying. This is the principle reason we use them.
Chem 1000 will take about 60 to 80 minutes to dry, depending on the current temperature and the humidity.
The colder the temperature of the floor, the longer it will take to dry.
The higher the humidity, the faster it will dry.
As a result, it’s very important to match the product’s pot life, as well as the dry time.
Are Polyaspartic Coatings As Durable As Epoxy Coatings?
Polyaspartic coatings have very good chemical resistance and wear resistance… just like an epoxy coating. Polyaspartics also have very good U.V. resistance.
However, Polyaspartic products have the advantage of being much faster drying.
You can also use products like Chem 1000 in exterior projects without having them yellow or break down due to weather condtions.
How Long Is The Product Expected To Last?
Polyaspartics are tough coatings. A properly applied and maintained polished product coating like Chem 1000 should last at least 5 years in an interior or exterior application.
